William Collier
began his career in 1968 as an innovative part of one of Seattles
most prestigious salons. This position allowed contact with a well-traveled
clientele, which inspired the pursuit of additional training in Europe
and Britain.
The desire for
innovation and creativity spawned the opening of Salon 1500 in 1970.
He was soon joined by the leaders in the industry, including such
notables as Gene Juarez. At this time William and Gene traveled together
training in one of Londons most creative and prestigious training
centers, at the same time enjoying the exciting fashion districts
of London and Paris.
While following
the European hair design circuit for many years William Collier gained
an understanding of the art of hair design, and the distinction between
art and trend. This distinction allowed William to see his clients
as individuals and allowed for the inclusion of their personal character.
During this period he trained abroad with some of the most talented
international names in the industry, on the Continent and Britain.
By 1972 William
again felt the need to expand his operation and opened Salon West
in West Seattle and one year later Colliers in the fashion district
of downtown Seattle. Salon West became a satellite location offering
convenient access to Williams distinct hair design team. The
downtown location was a statement in elegance, offering a full spectrum
of state of the art services to include: all aspects of hair design
as well as; facial esthetics, wardrobe consulting, electrolysis, tanning,
manicures, pedicures and massage.
As hair and fashion
began another shift William felt the desire to return to Europe to
gain the momentum of a new era in hair and fashion being ushered in
by Europes finest designers. Another attitude change was taking
place; existing structure was becoming freer and more individual.
At this time an association with a European hair replacement specialist
was established. William found himself attracted to the highly technical
nature of the hair replacement business as well as the very personal
impact it has on the community: this opened up a new realm of participation
in the hair industry.
William pursued
the hair replacement field, while maintaining his existing clientele.
